James Ehnes and friends from the Seattle Chamber Music Society hit the road on a fascinating journey through chamber music by some of the giants of 20th-century American classical music.

Aaron Copland’s masterful Violin Sonata, Leonard Bernstein’s youthful and vibrant Piano Trio, and Samuel Barber’s B minor String Quartet with its famous Adagio slow movement (known the world over as ‘Barber’s Adagio’) are joined by Elliott Carter’s haunting ‘Elegy’ from early in his long career, and the other-worldly ‘Largo’ by that great maverick Charles Ives.

They knew what they were doing when they named this record Nordub. Nor for North, represented here by Nils Petter Molvaer. In 1997, when the label ECM brought out the stunning album Khmer, this Norwegian trumpeter shook the jazz world by bringing electronic music into his atmospheric musical world. Nor is also his fellow countryman, guitarist Eivind Aarset and Finnish electro-tinkerer and DJ Vladislav Delay. As for the three letters of Dub, they stand for the genre’s most classic duo: Sly Dunbar on drums and bassist Robbie Shakespeare. In 2016, this motley crew made up of the Jamaican tandem and Nils Petter Molvaer hit the stage. It was quite a warm-up for their studio session in Oslo.

In essence, Molvaer’s world has always been a hybrid, bringing together textures that were never exclusively jazz. His playing style uses different atmospheric controls without ever losing the creative strength of his improvisations or compositions. Here, the trumpeter even works his way into the unique Sly & Robbie sound with a perfectly natural air. And that is surely the strength of Nordub. No-one takes over, or tries to overpower the other. The fusion is total, and sincere. We even feel that our two old Jamaican long-distance travellers have strayed out of their normal comfort zone to take part actively in this music as it takes shape. Just like Aarset and Delay’s work, every part is a vital component of the final result. Together, our five sound adventurers produce a fine symphony of truly singular dub and jazz.

Thought You Knew is the second album from Snowpoet, the London based band led by Jazz FM Vocalist of the Year (2016) Lauren Kinsella and composer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Hyson. Born out of a deep musical friendship and mutual understanding, Snowpoet’s acclaimed eponymous debut released in 2016 won rave reviews and a devoted audience with its compelling sound, drawing comparisons with Bjork.

With Thought You Knew the musical collaboration and sound takes a big step up in terms of production, musical ideas and execution. Blending sweet hook-laden vocal lines with warm and lush arrangements, the music is infectious, delicate and tasteful. The sound is clear and beautifully produced while the lyrical content exhibits a deep and raw emotion.

The self-penned tunes confirm Lauren and Chris’ growing sense of identity as a writing partnership, a progression that’s evident in the confidence with which they approach the two covers on the album – ‘Dear Someone’ by Gillian Welch and ‘Snow’ by Emilíana Torrini. Lauren demonstrates her ability to inhabit the world of a sophisticated singer-songwriter exemplified by these two heroines.

Featuring saxophonist Josh Arcoleo, guitarist Nick Costley-White, Matt Robinson on piano and Dave Hamblett on drums Snowpoet has produced an album of songs from a full-spectrum colour palette sustained and illuminated by supreme levels of musicianship.

With a new home at Edition Records Snowpoet is set to reach new heights, and is on the verge of building an extensive international following and profile confirming its reputation as one of the most interesting and vibrant vocal led ensembles in the UK today.

After the success of the first fourteen reissues, which restored to the limelight some of the gems of the early music repertory in the catalogues of our labels, here are fourteen new titles to allow listeners to renew acquaintance with further treasures of the Renaissance and Baroque (and even a journey through time thanks to Raphaël Imbert’s album Bach Coltrane), performed by some of the leading interpreters of the genre; most of these discs won one or more awards on their first release. As with the first series, the artists have been asked to contribute to the booklets, in which, with a few years’ hindsight, they talk about their conception of the works and how they went about recording them. The photographers of the Magnum agency illustrate the covers of the series with their work; this time the common design element is the colour yellow. In addition to the 13 titles shown below, the album FIRENZE 161 by LE POEME HARMONIQUE, VINCENT DUMESTRE, will also be reissued.

“I was truly relieved to learn that you seem to be not entirely unsatisfied with my arrangement of your sextets. Indeed I put much work into them, but it is always a delicate matter when one senses the author’s fine nose lurking in the background. You went through the proofs meticulously, as it seems, and it will thus be hard for me to find further printing errors. There are quite a few in the score [of the sextets]! Ah, well, even fools should find some enjoyment when they deal with them one hundred years from now. In my opinion, trio players will regard these two works as a welcome gift.”

That last ‘prophetic’ sentence by Theodor Kirchner – in an 1883 letter thanking Brahms for having praised his arrangements of his sextets – was unfortunately not fulfilled: these trio arrangements are now only featured in concert programmes on rare occasions, A partial explanation can be found in the general contempt suffered by arrangements of all kinds: according to general opinion, they are at odds with the current demand for ‘historical authenticity’. Anyone who sets out to arrange a musical masterpiece is undoubtedly assuming an immense artistic responsibility. In the best of cases, an arrangement should not only permit other instruments to perform the original in a new setting, but it should illuminate certain aspects in a way the original could not. A truly well-achieved arrangement is thus also an act of interpretation that transforms its model to a certain extent. We, the two string players in the Jean Paul Trio, obviously knew and loved Brahms’s two string sextets from practical experience, having performed them frequently in their original scoring – how much greater was our surprise and fascination when all three of us discovered Theodor Kirchner’s arrangements for piano trio! Not mere adaptations for a Hausmusik setting, they represent so much more: in our opinion, these are thoroughly ingenious elucidations of Brahms’s string sextets….’

When he passed away on 12 September 2003 at the age of 71, Johnny Cash left behind thousands of poems and lyrics for unrecorded songs. His son, John Carter Cash opened the treasure chest and chose a few, and he charged a handful of artists close to the Man in Black with setting them to music. Some tracks resonate much more powerfully than others. Take, for example, Forever/I Still Miss Someone, the ultimate Cash poem, recited Kris Kristofferson with Willie Nelson on guitar… Equally touching, To June This Morning, a letter from the master to the love of his life, June Carter Cash, here given a very sober treatment by another real on-and-off-stage couple: Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly. This Forever Words also offers some rather unexpected sequences. More than 20 years on from his unusual take on Rusty Cage by Soundgarden on the albumUnchained, Chris Cornell sings You Never Knew My Mind, one of his final recordings before his suicide in May 2017. Emotion guaranteed.

Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, Brad Paisley, T. Bone Burnett, Rosanne Cash, John Mellencamp, Jewel, Carlene Carter, the trio I’m With Her, Robert Glasper and the Jayhawks are among the others featuring on this record, which has the advantage of not being yet another tribute album, but rather a way for active musicians to find a relevant way to communicate with this major auteur of the 20th century, whose reputation goes far beyond the boundaries of country music. Above all, none of them try to rip off Cash, or perform “in the style of Johnny Cash”. Everyone involved in Forever Words remains true to themselves, and that’s what makes the project a success.

1. Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson – Forever / I Still Miss Someone 00:47

What do we listen to when we play music? We listen to emotion, and passages which inspire. These passages sometimes stay with us in the form of indelible memories, if we hear them at the right moment and in the right place. What are these ‘right’ moments? They are the moments during which the music’s emotion matches perfectly with the events in our lives. A piece of music – indeed, a single chord may even be enough – can remind us of the joy or sadness we experience at that moment. Through experiences such as these, music speaks to us and becomes part of our lives. For Waldo Geuns, one such unforgettable musical work is Goyescas by the Spanish composer, Enrique Granados. He gives voice to love in all its joyful and challenging moments in this, his greatest piano suite. Granados uses the titles and the scenographic notes in the score to illustrate how two lovers make overtures to each other as they dance, how their relationship blossoms even as it weathers darker days, until fate ultimately takes its toll and one of the lovers passes away, leaving the other behind with nothing but beautiful memories. Granados, like Sergei Rachmaninoff, was one of the last great pianist-composers. His mastery of the piano can be heard in his exceptional virtuosity and lyricism. It has inspired Geuns to walk in his footsteps and write my own music using his melodies as points of departure. Not only did this give Geuns greater insight into his music, but it also allowed him to add to his story one of the most beautiful moments in a romantic relationship: the moment of first eye contact, and the realisation that one’s life will never be the same from that moment on.

In the eighteenth century it was common practice to hear excerpts from the public’s favourite operas and ballets, their most loved arias performed in transcriptions usually for wind sextet, or sometimes a wind octet, both occassionally with an additional bass instrument. This Harmoniemusik was all the rage in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, most intensely from 1780s – 1820s, particularly in Vienna but also in Prague and Budapest. Mozart himself, in a letter to his father, mentioned hearing such a group playing on the street from his window and expressed his joy at hearing his own music in this smaller ensemble setting.

This CD features Harmoniemusik of some of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s most loved arias from his operas ‘La Clemenza di Tito’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le nozze di Figaro’. The transcriptions were made by Georg Kaspar Sartorius (1754-1809). Needless to say, these particular transcriptions have their own texture and flavour that is apart from the original. What they offer still, are a representation of the bright, varied, virtuosic, melodious and grand music found in these operas reflected through the seductive timbres of clarinets, horns and bassoons, grounded and infused by the warmth of a contra-bass. And still imbued with all the essential brilliance of the original Mozart works. The natural vocal qualities of wind instruments in this grouping lend themselves perfectly to the emotionally charged and human voice Mozart was portraying.

Not a lot is know about Georg Kaspar Satorius. He was one of the many composers activily consumed by the writing of transcriptions, and was in the employ of the court of Ludwig X until around 1809. He made many transcriptions for his employer including others by Mozart (‘Cosi fan tutte’, and ‘Die Zauberflote’), Franz Xaver Sussmayr, Peter von Winter and Niccolo Puccinni.

Walkin’ in Love Land has an aura of nostalgia because of the number of older pop songs, like the Everly Brothers’ “All I Have to Do Is Dream” and Glen Campbell’s “Turn Around, Look at Me” (which was on the charts again in 1968 thanks to the Vogues). The wistful “Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye” was deservedly a number one hit for Eddy Arnold, even if Johnny Tillotson’s 1963 recording was better. The Platters’ “I’ll Never Smile Again” is a surprising selection that is well-suited to Arnold’s style, and the title track sounds like a missed opportunity for a single. On the downside, the cloying “Apples, Raisins and Roses” and most of side two are bland pop ballads of the sort that dominate Arnold’s late-’60s LPs. About half of Walkin’ in Love Land ranges in quality from above-average to very good, which is enough to place the album among the best of Eddy Arnold’s late RCA albums.

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 42:06 minutes | 842 MB | Genre: Indie Rock, Singer-Songwriter
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front cover | © E Works Records

The Eels’s 12th studio album was performed by E (Mark Oliver Everett) and longtime collaborators Koool G Murder and P-Boo alongside The Deconstruction Orchestra & Choir. It was produced by E, with some songs produced by Mickey Petralia for the first time since 1998’s Electro-Shock Blues. Eels mastermind E says of the new album, ”Here are 15 new EELS tracks that may or may not inspire, rock or not rock you. The world is going nuts. But if you look for it, there is still great beauty to be found. Sometimes you don’t even have to look for it. Other times you have to try to make it yourself. And then there are times you have to tear something apart to find something beautiful inside.”

“D” like deconstruction. “E” like Everett. One might have thought Mark Oliver was blackening the last pages of his twenty-year-old alphabet book with the introspective The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett, released in 2014. Four years have gone by. And unsurprisingly for this twelfth chapter, the hypersensitive artist with a coral voice has composed an absolute gem. A fine and beautiful showpiece. With folk embroideries, arranged pop, hemstitched silences (Premonition) and sensual strings (The Epiphany), The Deconstruction oscillates back and forth between emotional auroras (Be Hurt) and scruffy rock trepidations (Today Is The Day, You’re The Shining Light). To top it off, the multi-instrumentalist surrounded himself with great talent and met up with long-time collaborators in the Compound Studios, in California: bassist and keyboarder Koool G Murder (Kelly Logsdon) and P-Boo (Mike Sawitzke), as well as the Deconstruction Orchestra & Choir, and Mickey Petralia, who also worked on Electro-Schock Blues (1998). Seemingly disjointed, the fifteen tracks that make up the album roll out between lavish orchestrations filled with flutes, organs and keyboards, and bare segments for lyrical declamations (Archie Goodnight), arranging the musical space, accommodating instrumental pauses (The Quandary, The Unanswerable). All for a gracious and optimistic result!

With this new effort, Eric Bibb gives a personal vision of today’s world in his own poetic and contemporary way. Born and raised in New York, Bibb has traveled the planet extensively. He describes the people of this earth at length here, conjuring their conflicts and hardships, as well as their compassion, tolerance and empathy. “Jericho Road” was produced by Glen Scott, a young Englishman originally from Jamaica endowed with outstanding talent and creativity. Scott’s lavish musical arrangements and attention to sound make this new recording an exceptionally fine production. Eric gives a whole new meaning to the blues of the 21st Century, proving that the genre remains as lively and relevant as ever. Jericho Road is an event in itself, and a superlative album.

Eric Bibb’s version of the blues has always been patient and positive, and his best songs and tracks are calm, wise, hushed, unhurried, and elegant, more concerned with solutions than darkness and despair, a vision that makes him the spiritual descendant of Blind Willie Johnson, say, more than Robert Johnson. Bibb isn’t about to go down to the crossroads and make some deal with the devil. His version of folk-blues isn’t about that sort of stuff. It’s closer to gospel in tone, with a strong commitment to betterment and change, bereft of personal demons, and filled instead with cultural ones. Bibb wants us to have a heart and work together and fix things between us on a global level. All of this could well make his music precious and preachy rather than poignant, but Bibb is adept at making his version of the blues, social discourse and all, work as smoothly as a gentle rain on the roof at night. Jericho Road, which finds Bibb working once again with longtime collaborator, producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist Glen Scott, isn’t much of a departure from Bibb’s previous outings, but it’s sonically deeper, with a full, warm sound augmented at times by wonderfully placed maverick horn and string touches. The message is the same, that we need redemption and commitment in our lives, and that true freedom is born of that. The whole album feels comfortable, patient, and wise, from the opener, “Drinkin’ Gourd,” through the bright, buoyant “Freedom Train,” “Have a Heart,” the lovely “They Know,” and the joyous secular gospel shuffle “She Got Mine.” There aren’t any jagged edges. Bibb is about healing scars, not outlining and celebrating them. The blues is what you make of it. ~ Steve Leggett

This album took shape when the producer Philippe Langlois, the guitarist Eric Bibb, and the harmonica player Jean-Jacques Milteau joined forces to record a tribute to the legendary Lead Belly. The latter, still too little known by the public at large, is the source for a multitude of timeless covers and compositions from the likes of Nirvana, The Animals, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bob Dylan… and many more! Many of the songs here are from live interpretations, performed both with and without and audience, which adds a palpable freshness to the disc. Accompanied by a strong battery attack and an acoustic bass, indulge in the singing and snapping guitars of Eric Bibb and the delicate harmonica lines of Milteau; they chime in perfect cohesion. The result is a joyous album of concentrated blues and high-quality folk.

“This album is instantly recognizable as a Foo Fighters record,” Dave Grohl said in a statement, “but there’s something deeper and more musical to it. I think that these cities and these people influenced us to stretch out and explore new territory, without losing our ‘sound.'” In the teaser below (which shows Grohl getting a new tattoo) you can hear the frontman again screaming, “All Rise!” But this time, he’s backed by a full band. Sonic Highways was co-produced by the band with Butch Vig (Nirvana’s Nevermind).

For the album and series, Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear wrote and recorded one song in each of these eight cities, delving into the local musical currents: how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years, and in turn the impact those people had on the cultural fabric of their hometowns. All songs feature local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in an unprecedented experimental style: Dave held off on putting down words until the last day of each session, so as to be inspired by the experiences, interviews for the HBO series, and other local personalities who became part of the process.

Nobody ever would’ve thought the Foo Fighters were gearing up for a hiatus following the vibrant 2011 LP Wasting Light, but the group announced just that in 2012. It was a short-lived break, but during that time-off, lead Foo Dave Grohl filmed an ode to the classic Los Angeles recording studio Sound City, which in turn inspired the group’s 2014 album, Sonic Highways. Constructed as an aural travelog through the great rock & roll cities of America — a journey that was documented on an accompanying HBO mini-series of the same name — Sonic Highways picks up the thread left dangling from Sound City: Real to Reel; it celebrates not the coiled fury of underground rock exploding into the mainstream, the way the ’90s-happy Wasting Light did, but rather the classic rock that unites the U.S. from coast to coast. No matter the cameo here — and there are plenty of guests, all consciously different from the next, all bending to the needs of their hosts — the common denominator is the pumping amps, sky-scraping riffs, and sugary melodies that so identify the sound of arena rock at its pre-MTV peak. There are a few unexpected wrinkles, as when Ben Gibbard comes aboard to give “Subterranean” a canned electronic pulse and Tony Visconti eases the closing “I Am a River” into a nearly eight-minute epic, but the brief eight-song album just winds up sounding like nothing else but the Foo Fighters at their biggest, burliest, and loudest. They’ve become the self-proclaimed torch barriers for real rock, championing the music’s history but also blessedly connecting the ’70s mainstream and ’80s underground so it’s all one big nation ruled by six-strings. That the mainstream inevitably edges out the underground on Sonic Highways is perhaps inevitable — it is the common rock language, after all — but even if there’s a lingering predictability in the paths the Foo Fighters follow on Sonic Highways, they nevertheless know how to make this familiar journey pleasurable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Concrete and Gold is the ninth studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, described by the band as an album where “hard rock extremes and pop sensibilities collide”. Upon its release, Concrete and Gold was received positively by music critics, who praised the album’s more expansive feel, both musically and lyrically.

Now 48 years old, Dave Grohl seems to have reached a turning point in his career. A decisive one for the future. After receiving a well-deserved Legion of Honour for playing the drums for Nirvana he recorded the first album of the Foo Fighters in October 1994, six months after Kurt Cobain committed suicide. More pop but as untamed as the music of the band that made him famous, this start didn’t fail to impress. Gradually however, album after album, this rock’n’roll drawing from punk slowly smoothed out the edges to approach often very commercial radio tunes. To the point of Grohl and his crew filling out stadiums after stadiums with a rather complacent original soundtrack… With Concrete And Gold, it is clear the Foo Fighters took the time to reflect on their evolution. In the media, their leader even pulled out a mouth-watering marketing tirade: “this album is a Motörhead version of Sgt Pepper!”. And it must be said, what happened within our ears was something not too dissimilar to this description. Especially because Paul McCartney himself is involved on one of the titles! Indeed the former Beatle plays the drums on Sunday Rain. Other unexpected guests were invited to this metal-pop orgy: Justin Timberlake on Make It Right, Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men on Concrete And Gold, Inara George from The Bird And The Bee on Dirty Water, Alison Mosshart from The Kills on La Dee Da and The Sky Is a Neighborhood, as well as saxophonist Dave Koz on La Dee Da! Much like Sgt Pepper’s patchwork cover art, this ninth Foo Fighters album goes in every direction. An orgasmic eclecticism carried by the traditional downpour of guitars, but also a more refined sense of pop melody than usual. Some songs are even testosterone-free to make way for rather delicious psychedelic illuminations… Mission accomplished for Dave Grohl in terms of ability to question and renew himself.

Debut albums often serve as fine introductions to the work of fledgling artists with potential for greater things, but that wasn’t the case with Gregory Porter’s Water (Motéma, 2010). Porter’s debut, which was nominated for a Grammy Award, presented a vocal soul-jazz juggernaut that seemingly materialized out of thin air as a fully matured musical entity. His early experiences working in small San Diego clubs and singing in Off-Broadway and Broadway productions in New York helped Porter to establish himself as a vocal talent who doesn’t merely sing songs but, rather, inhabits different personae delivering messages through music.

On Water, Porter showed that he was capable of shifting from politically charged fire and brimstone (“1960 What?”) to soothing serenades (“But Beautiful”), demonstrating an extraordinary range in style and sentiment. He continues to branch out in various directions on Be Good, his highly anticipated sophomore effort. The album opens with the emotionally engaging “Painted On Canvas,” and, on the title track, pianist Chip Crawford delivers dainty piano work, reflecting the “dancing” references in Porter’s lyrics. Porter sings with Bill Withers-style bona fides on “Real Good Hands,” as he convincingly explains to in-laws- to-be that he looks up to them and that their daughter will be taken care of. He exhibits a “flower power” attitude of peace and love as he marries jazz, soul and folk attributes on “Mother’s Song,” a tribute to his mother.

While the emphasis is squarely placed on Porter’s own music he penned nine out of the twelve tunes the album ends with a double shot of classic jazz. Porter lets loose on a stirring version of Nat Adderley’s “Work Song,” which features strong solo spots from saxophonists Yosuke Sato and Tivon Pennicott. The album ends with a mellow, a cappella take of “God Bless The Child.”

Porter presents various facets of his personality throughout the album, but the jubilant “On My Way To Harlem” best explains his artistry. In name checking the divine artistic triptych of Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes, and Marvin Gaye, Porter essentially outlines his own design as a soulful jazz poet. If Water heralded the arrival of the next big name in vocal jazz, then Be Good makes it clear that Porter still has plenty to say. Be Good is beyond great and he’s here to stay.

His arrival in 2013 on Blue Note record label with the impressive Liquid Spirit has seen him emerge as one of the brilliant voices in soul’n’jazz over the last few years. Gregory Porter has an especially soulful vocal range, far richer and more complex than those of his colleagues. Jazz, soul, gospel, blues, the Californian knows every corner of Great Black Music, but it is his ability for fusion that truly sets him apart. He is no simple ‘heir’ to Donny Hathaway like others have tried to be. With Take Me To The Alley, which is also released on Blue Note, Porter once again transcends genres. The new record also shows that, far from having been fatal, success allowed him to mature both as a person and artistically. The singer has chosen to leave the euphoria of Brooklyn with his wife and son to return to Bakersfield in California to be closer to his siblings. On Take Me To The Alley, Gregory Porter is supported by the core of his group. Pianist and musical director Chip Crawford, bassist Aaron James, drummer Emmanuel Harrold, alto saxophonist Yosuke Sato and tenor saxophonist Tivon Pennicott offer him a royal backing, and the album is an emotive experience from start to finish Note that Take Me To The Alley also welcomes guests such as singer Alicia Olatuja, trumpeter Keyon Harrold and organist Ondrel Pivec.

On his latest offering The Underdog, Watson is back with more of the same kind of psychedelic electronic grooves that call to mind the latest Tame Impala record Currents from a few years back. Title track “The Underdog” sounds like it could have fit perfectly in the film Vanilla Sky when (SPOILER ALERT) Tom Cruise freaks out and suffocates Penelope Cruz to death. It’s a downtempo jam with a funky bass line. It’s amazing how track to track, Watson jumps from one genre to another. If you can’t find one song on this record you like, you just don’t like music.

On the next track “S.I.A.”, which was a single, the tempo picks up dramatically with a driving bass line and simple guitar riff that sounds like it could be an LCD Soundsystem tune. “After All From The Sun” is the most Tame Impala sounding track of the bunch, though it features some really dope Prince-like vocals at the start before a juicy synth line revs the track up. It’s probably my favorite from the album.

The 10-track album is expansive and features so much depth and layers that you find something new with each listen. If you’re even a slight fan of Tame Impala, this is right up your alley. This is a perfect album to get stoned and throw on and just vibe out to.

This Paris By Song is an initiatory and ambulatory journey in Paris, in the image of a demonstration (where the claims would be only artistic and aesthetic) that would leave the Place de la République (first piece) instead Bastille (eleventh and last piece), through the Pont des Arts, the Moulin Rouge, the Père Lachaise, the Grand Palais, the Royal Palace, Montmartre and Belleville. A musical journey punctuated by the sounds of the city where some songs without indication of place in their titles are yet evocative of a precise geolocation: Casa Pepe is a Spanish restaurant located rue Mouffetard which was the preferred stopover in Paris of Paco de Lucia and Bohemian Dream, signed by Jo Privat, evokes the musette balls of the rue de Lappe. All the pieces of this album (signed by Jean-Luc Fillon, with the exception of the cover of Jo Privat and Moulin Rouge, composed by Didier Ithursarry) call on the movement of the body: an energetic march (Republic), a stroll chaotic (Pont des Arts, Royal Palace) and dance well (the frenzy of Casa Pepe, the waltz of Bohemian Dream, the klezmer atmosphere of Belleville).

A festive and dancing whirlwind, but also a lot of melancholy and poetry, of mystery and meditation, like Père Lachaise and his beautiful throbbing melody, paying homage to all the great artists who sit there, and who comes back to the end of the disc in a hidden piece, with the nostalgic echo of a mechanical piano.
