Sanitize Tom Waits’s vocal cords, take some of the rasp out of Dr. John’s, put some muscle into Bobby Caldwell’s, combine them and you’ll have an approximation of the quality of Steve Tyrell’s voice. Like his popular 1999 debut, “A New Standard”, this is a meticulously recorded album featuring the great American songbook and some of the best jazz soloists alive, including trumpeter Clark Terry, harmonica player Toots Thielemans, and singer Jane Monheit, who plays Lucille Ball and Betty Carter against Tyrell’s Red Skelton and Ray Charles on the classic duet “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

Tyrell complements each of his partners with the kind of empathy that makes them shine as bright as his irresistible voice. Plas Johnson’s saxophone take on “That Old Feeling,” for instance, is highly reminiscent of the symbiotic musical partnership that Lester Young created with Billie Holiday more than half a century ago. Also like his first record, it is the creative arrangements of guitarist Bob Mann and pianist Joe Sample that make these 16 tracks work so well.

Steve Tyrell has had a long journeyman’s career in the music business, serving as record company executive, songwriter, and producer. But no one could have predicted the twist his career took in the late ’90s. After he sang standards on the soundtracks of the films Father of the Bride (1991) and Father of the Bride 2 (1995), he was signed up by Atlantic Records to make an album of similar material. A New Standard (1999), his debut album, was a sleeper, such that Atlantic cut him loose, but it was still in the traditional jazz charts two years after its release. Tyrell had joined a new wave of retro singers like Diana Krall and Jane Monheit, reinterpreting the same batch of interwar songs that traditional pop singers have been performing regularly since the 1950s. Columbia Records scooped him up, and Standard Time is more of the same. Hailing from Houston, Tyrell has the same Deep South/Southwest accent and the same raspy vocal tone as Dr. John and Leon Russell. His performances, accompanied by a small jazz band occasionally augmented by a small string or brass section, are excuses to set up solos by a group of traditional jazz veterans – Clark Terry, Joe Sample, Plas Johnson, Toots Thielemans, and, in his final recording, Harry “Sweets” Edison. Other than giving the songs a slightly bluesy edge, the singer doesn’t bring any particularly new element to his interpretations, and the soloists, with their slight variations on the melodies, don’t find anything much new to say either. But then, the retro-jazz movement isn’t about the shock of the new, it’s about the reassurance of the old, and Tyrell, who has stumbled upon success after years in the wilderness, can’t be faulted for enjoying himself in the studio with so many venerable talents.

Along with Joe Venuti and Stéphane Grappelli, and Svend Asmussen, Stuff Smith was one of the pre-eminent violinists of the swing era and played an important role in the violin’s transition into the modern jazz era, playing with tenor sax giant Coleman Hawkins, bebop icon Dizzy Gillespie, and avant-gardist Sun Ra. A crack rhythm section including MPS ‘house drummer’ Charly Antolini provide ample support on this 1967 offering.

Ain’t She Sweet is taken at a tasty swing tempo with Smith’s sumptuous blues-laced violin out front. April In Paris has Stuff with a spring in his step as he plays around the theme. Sweet Lorraine sees the band in a relaxed, laid-back mood, while Basie’s One O’Clock Jump has just the right bounce, with tenor saxophonist Heribert Thusek riffing along with Smith. Everybody has his say on an upbeat Cherokee, whereas Yesterdays has that blue tone of yearning. What Is This Thing Called Love brings the tenor back as Stuff explains what love is all about. It all goes to show, there’s a lot of soul in this black violin.

„Stuff Smith’s poor health in his later years didn’t stop him from performing or recording, this studio date in Germany was recorded not long before his death on September 25, 1967. With a band of competent but not well known European musicians backing him, the violinist completed seven numbers for his final record, all standards of various vintage. Smith, of course, is the centerpiece of the LP; although he only uses a small portion of his bow, his unorthodox approach to the instrument produces a very distinct sound all his own. His vibrato-filled introduction to “Cherokee” is followed by a fine solo by pianist Otto Weiss and several brief drum breaks by Charley Antolini. His most adventurous playing takes place during “Sweet Lorraine,” in a happy arrangement that almost seems like someone whistling as he jauntily walks down the street, though his second solo within the song makes great use of dissonance. Tenor saxophonist Heribert Thusek plays in unison with Smith during the opening to “One O’Clock Jump” and takes a swinging solo prior to the leader; he is also present on one other number, a foot tapping easygoing take of “What Is This Thing Called Love?” Unfortunately, this LP disappeared from print rather rapidly after its 1972 release when BASF quit the record-making business, so fans of Stuff Smith may have a very difficult time locating a copy of this excellent LP.“ (Ken Dryden, AMG)

“Brotherhood of the Snake” is the eleventh studio album by American thrash metal band Testament. It is the band’s first studio recording with bassist Steve Di Giorgio since “First Strike Still Deadly”. The album also marks Testament’s fifth collaboration with Andy Sneap, who had mixed and engineered all of their albums since “The Gathering” (1999). The album debuted at number twenty on the Billboard 200 chart, making it Testament’s second highest charting album in the US.

Testament haven’t been exactly prolific since the turn of the century. Brotherhood of the Snake, their eleventh album overall, is only their fourth record since 1999, and their first since 2012’s excellent Dark Roots of the Earth. The upshot of these infrequent releases is that it makes every one of them an event. Brotherhood of the Snake is no exception. It’s not appreciably different from their post-1999 output, but offers an excellent sonic portrait of Testament doing what they do best – aggressive, riff-heavy, in-your-face thrash. There is a fun concept at work here, but this is more a track-by-track listening experience that adds up to a massive whole.

If there is anything really different about the jams on offer here, it’s the preponderance of killer guitar breaks by Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick. There are solos everywhere, but they are woven so tightly into the fabric of the riff and breakdown structure, they are inseparable. The title-track opener is a primer for everything that follows. Gene Hoglan’s hard-grooving double-time drum thunder is appended by the octave-bridging guitar interplay anchored by Steve DiGiorgio’s bass thrum. Chuck Billy’s menacing snarl articulates every clever turn of phrase with a roaring vocal that renders every word hearable. (Thanks in no small part to Juan Urteaga’s brilliant engineering). There’s actually a hook in the breakdown section of “The Pale King” offset by angular guitar riffs in the bridge. A guitar solo followed by dual leads cascades into a monstrous finish by Hoglan. (His blastbeats on these tracks, “Stronghold,” and “Centuries of Suffering” are just startling.) Another killer is “Black Jack,” with a jagged arpeggio riff answered line for line by DiGiorgio as Hoglan adds blasts and triple-timed rhythms with bone-cracking force. “Canna-Business” is the only jam that would not have been missed if it had been left off. Musically, it’s killer, but the lyrics don’t fit the album’s concept and are laughably bad to boot. Luckily, the tracks that immediately precede and proceed it – “Neptune’s Spear” and closer “The Number Game” – shake, quake, and burn to balance it out. That one track aside, Brotherhood of the Snake is not only on par with Testament’s best records during the millennium thus far, but ever. In the thrash arena, only Death Angel’s excellent The Evil Divide can compete for an album of the year title.

On this special offer for Jazz collectors, pianist Ernie Warren and his trio’s main goal was to entertain their audiences. This album captures that energetic spirit as well as his group’s passion for jazz and rock and roll in the nightclub scene in New York during the 1950s.

Pianist Ernie Warren was a regular fixture on the New York nightclub scene of the 1950’s. He led the main orchestra at the Stork Club, the Savoy Plaza, the Little Club, Le Cupidon, the Hawaiian Room at the Lexington Hotel, and many others. He played a wide array of styles on the piano from jazz to “society” music and his main goal was to please. In this album, for example, he wanted “to communicate a wide variety of moods.” Slow, romantic music for dancing or day dreaming; Latin-American rhythms; and even a touch here and there of rock and roll, made particularly intriguing by his rolling use of the lower register of the piano. Very few recordings exist of this once popular entertainer, and this audiophile recording from 1959 faithfully captures the popular entertainer in the setting he knew best. Recorded live at Peacock Alley at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Manhattan, backed by a trio featuring the great Al Caiola on guitar, Ted Prashina on bass and Mario Toscarelli on drums. All selections newly remastered.

Following their extraordinary debut at the BBC Proms in 2009, John Wilson and his hand-picked orchestra have established a well-earned reputation as THE modern interpreters of the Hollywood musical, regularly garnering rave reviews for their live performances at the Proms and around the UK, as well as their recordings since signing an exclusive contract with this label in early 2011.

For this next release, Warner Classics is proud to present Gershwin in Hollywood, recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, at the culmination of this extraordinary orchestra’s sell-out UK tour in 2015. For those who are uninitiated, Therion is a Swedish symphonic metal band founded in 1988. They started out as a death metal band but started to incorporate orchestral elements such as choirs, string sections and classical singing. They’ve put out 15 full-length records and “Beloved Antichrist” is their latest offering. There is one important thing to note about this record, which makes it a bit hard to review it. This is a Rock Opera in three acts and with 27 different character roles. There are themes and motifs occurring and re-occurring throughout. Melodies are revisited in different configurations and much of the texture of the record is tightly woven with the story, which you will have to dig into yourself if you want to enjoy this record.

Therion are the poster band for symphonic metal. For over 30 years, they’ve developed an innovative power metal that often engages with classical orchestration and theatrical drama. That said, Beloved Antichrist is far more ambitious than anything they’ve done previously; it makes Gothic Kabbalah and Sitra Ahra sound minimal. Fully 46 tracks are spread over three discs/acts clocking in at 182 minutes. It features the septet and numerous guests (there are 29 individual singers), an enormous orchestra, and choir. This conceptual musical drama is inspired by and partially based on philosopher and abstract theologian Vladímir Soloviov’s novel A Short Tale of the Antichrist. It is the career realization of Therion guitarist and founder Christofer Johnsson; he conceived, arranged, and wrote the music (with several lyricists). The basic story line (detailed in an expansive libretto) involves Seth, a man able to converse with God directly and who sees himself as the Messiah. His conceit results in losing his gift. In despair he jumps from a cliff, only to be rescued by Satan, who offers Seth another gift. The story follows an involved and twisty transition from self-proclaimed Messiah to an Antichrist who becomes the globe’s ruler. He even ushers in a Golden Age that makes his subjects more devoted as he works to bring forth the darkness of his true intent. Johnsson’s characters – particularly Seth, played by Therion vocalist Thomas Vikström – are executed with depth and dimension. This rock opera – and that’s exactly what it is – is an expertly crafted allegory dramatically paced and chock-full of musical imagination. It’s easy to find overwhelming, and most will likely absorb it in segments, but a single listening episode in its entirety offers a more powerful experience. The arrangements are elaborate, juxtaposing a large number of instruments that illustrate narratives episodically and further character development. On “What Is Wrong?” and “Time Has Come/Final Battle,” string sections swirl panoramically as earthshaking horns and timpanis illustrate the force of the underworld. Piano, bells, and chimes add a flourish to the album’s quieter moments, and harpsichords flit in and out of the mix in interludes that require nuance. In “Temple of New Jerusalem,” classical recitative is accompanied by reeds and winds floating above layers of strings, organ, and synth; that’s before chugging guitars and cracking snares claim the center for Vikström’s Seth and Markus Jupither’s Appolonius’ (Greek and Roman gods are cast members) argument while the choir mediates. “Night Reborn” commences as pure crash-and-burn power metal, but the principal singers and choir provide color and texture. These combinations and recombinations soar on the final disc’s “Forgive Me” and “The Wasteland of My Heart,” the former a ballad-cum-rocker led by Chiara Malvestiti’s Joanna confronting Seth, the latter an angular prog metal cruncher with twin leads framing Vikström. Ultimately, it’s impossible to summarize the massive Beloved Antichrist in a few tracks, but taken as intended, as a whole, it is an exhausting, enthralling monolithic marvel.

Since the release of Turnstile’s debut, “Nonstop Feeling”, the Baltimore group toured for months on end both in the hardcore scene and on diverse support slots for rock acts like the Story So Far, Basement and Turnover. Their latest musical statement, “Time & Space”, speaks to their expanding audience in ways that are primarily infectious. The second single, ‘Generator’, is a case in point; a precisely sweet blend of ’90s alternative rock and New York hardcore. While experimental in nature, it’s not enough of a leap to overwhelm any brand of listener.

This formula is successful throughout Time & Space, but most praiseworthy in “(Lost Another) Piece of My World.” The song welds the immense Britpop choruses that wrote Blur’s paychecks 20 years ago to the tune of the grooviest Leeway riffs. It is a fleeting sensation to take in, although it may not digest on paper. Turnstile also somehow find time to visit dreamy shoegaze riffs on the intro to “Can’t Get Away” and Elton John-influenced accents in the verses of “High Pressure.” It is quirky and flamboyant, but never insincere.

The record generally drifts along at ease, but peculiar interludes bring bumps in the road during the yacht rock-ish “Disco” and the R&B-tinted “Bomb.” Time & Space is otherwise only flawed during the tawdry radio-friendly territory Turnstile stumble into during “Moon” and “Big Smile.” The melodies in both are jarring and could’ve used further incubation, because they mostly flaunt their growing pains.

Time & Space is Turnstile taking what worked from their prior material and seasoning it with a modern, diverse zest. While this body of work has some blunders, the band are well on their way to what might soon be their pinnacle release.

Composer & analog synthesist Todd Barton created an album of music as an integral part of Ursula K. Le Guin’s groundbreaking novel, “Always Coming Home”. The main peoples of this book are call the Kesh. Originally released in 1985 as a cassette tape bound with the hardback printing, “The Music and Poetry of the Kesh”, which features readings of Kesh poetry by Ursula Le Guin, finally have be re-issued on CD and vinyl in March 2018.

Ursula K. Le Guin, the master writer who died in January at the age of 88, was best known for her novels The Dispossessed, her Earthsea series, and the best-selling The Left Hand of Darkness, which imagined a planet whose inhabitants have no fixed gender identity. After Darkness was published in 1969, it became a classic of both science fiction and of feminist science fiction, a genre Le Guin helped bore into existence.

“Hard times are coming, when we’ll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope,” Le Guin said in a fiery speech at the 2014 National Book Awards. “We’ll need writers who can remember freedom—poets, visionaries—realists of a larger reality.”

In her final months, she was preparing the re-release of a 1985 work that had largely flown under the radar. Music and Poetry of the Kesh, her collaborative album with composer and analog synthesist Todd Barton, was first issued on cassette in 1985, bundled with Le Guin’s novel Always Coming Home, a dark-horse favorite among her readers. It’s an expansive, 523-page portrayal of a future tribe of indigenous people living an anti-colonial existence 500 years from now, their lives ruled by nature and the seasons, their story told by Le Guin in fiction, poetry, plays, recipes, ethnography, a glossary, and hand-drawn maps. Even given those wildly melding genres, Le Guin claimed she needed to “hear the music,” too. She enlisted Barton and began an elaborate and carefully considered process that yielded the deceptively verisimilar Music and Poetry of the Kesh.

Field Report are thrilled to announce their new album, SUMMERTIME SONGS, to be released on March 23rd on Verve Forecast, part of Verve Label Group. Verve Label Group is home to the newly revitalized Verve Forecast imprint, whose rich catalogue includes artists including Richie Havens, Laura Nyro, Captain Beefheart, and Tim Hardin. A national tour will follow the release of Summertime Songs.

People have called our first record “wintery.” And Marigolden was “autumnal.” This is our version of a Summer record. It has hooks. It’s a pop record. When you make something, you’re going to pick up some of the environment in which it was made. It was made in the summer. It was also made in the midst of the disintegration of relationships: partners were quitting on each other; barrel bottoms were discovered; health was compromised. And America was running a parallel kamikaze breakup narrative. It was all in the air, and it is all in the record.

The songs and the Spring appeared in 2016 and it was time to record. We had been off the road a while. My wife was pregnant with our first child and I wanted to be nearby and not some far-flung location. I began working with producer and engineer Daniel Holter at Wire & Vice, his studio in Milwaukee. We treated the studio as a studio, that is, the working place of a painter or sculptor or photographer. We would show up each day and react to the work we had done the day before. Barry Clark would come by and respond to that work. Thomas Wincek would respond with contributions from his studio, and we would respond to that. Shane Leonard came from Eau Claire for a three day drum session. The record was finished in October 2016.

This record is coming out on Verve Forecast, our first record for them. I’m still stunned when I allow my mind to wander through the Verve roster: Ella Fitzgerald. The Velvet Underground. Tim Hardin. Woody Guthrie. Bill Evans. Count Basie. Zappa. Field Report.

Here we are. I hope you find something in the environment we made for you that sticks with you. Thank you for listening.

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz  | Time – 45:05 minutes | 418 MB | Genre: Electronic, Ambient, Experimental
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download  | Front Cover | © Ba Da Bing!

The prime symbol of Red Goddess (Of This Men Shall Know Nothing), is mugwort. A herb associated with dreaming, travel and menstruation, mugwort particularly favors edgelands: those abandoned, untended places, part man-made, part rural, where nature begins to reclaim what humanity has left behind. The music here unfolds a mandala of symbolism from these liminal spaces, drawn from a web of fascinations which unfolded during the recording process.

“Hawthonn is the real deal. Equally adept at transcribing crow calls into musical scales as they are at creating horizon melting atmospheres, Red Goddess raises the bar for musicians interested in composing straight from the creative magination. For fans of Jocelyn Godwin, John Dee and Folk Horror as much as the darker spectrum ofBritish music, this is a record of staggering breadth.” – Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance).

These Farmhouse Sessions bring together acoustic versions of a lot of the most important numbers in the High Valley repertoire. The Canadian duo, hailing from La Crete in Alberta probably meant to draw attention to the raw power of their writing. And so Brad et Curtis Rempel have returned to their essential roots. It’s country music that rests on a deft blending of bluegrass with pop. For sure, that’s hardly stuff to set the barn on fire: but these songs and their sheer sincerity have enough about them to set listeners dreaming of riding a thoroughbred bareback over the prairies…

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz  | Time – 42:38 minutes | 980 MB | Genre: Jazz

New York-born singer Indra Rios-Moore, now living in Barcelona, releases her new album “Carry My Heart” this week on Verve. It comes right after her pretty successful (at least in Europe) “Heartland” album. One of the most sympathetic features of the album is the fact that Indra wanted to record an optimistic record because there was (and is) simply too much whining going on. Not that most of the current matters aren’t disheartening, but it feels good to be warmed and eased by Indra’s warm and caressing voice on covers such as “I Can See Clearly Now” or Curtis Mayfield’s “Keep On Pushin’”. Still, you can file this one under “protest” albums, too because during the writing process, a certain Drumpf took over the White House. But in a recent interview with her, she just won’t let such a mess bring her down and she gladly took her role as an artist and performer seriously and cries out against it. And the warmth and beauty of her personality is ardently echoed on the eleven tracks of the disc.

The very subdued, intimate and soothing album opens with the Gospel-like title track (about all the people fleeing their home countries and heading for Europe) and features her longtime Danish group members which also recorded with her on the last album: her husband saxophonist Benjamin Traerup, bassist Thomas Sejthen, drummer Knuth Finsrud and guitarist Samuel Hallkvist. They just beautifully gel on all the cuts and turn Steely Dan‘s “Any Major Dude” (“When the demon is at your door /In the morning it won’t be there no more”) into a healing little anthem. The harmonization on the other original tune, “Give It Your Best”, is simply beautiful, with saxophone and guitar blending perfectly and Indra’s almost preaching voice is forceful, yet sensitive and striking.

Pop singer Robyn‘s “Be Mine” is much more intense and stronger than the original and even though her head voice shines through here and there, she is very convincing and captivating on interpreting the golden soul classics: “Don’t Say Goodnight (It’s Time For Love)” by The Isley Brothers is a very welcome treat. She captures the beauty and the essence of the song wholeheartedly. We also get two jazz standards: “Love Walked In” by George & Ira Gershwin is done pretty straight-up with Indra’s voice shining bright and strong. And Duke Ellington‘s “Come Sunday” is of course a very special, difficult song to sing and everybody has his favorite interpretation. There is just no chance to top Abbey Lincoln’s recording on her 1959 “Abbey Is Blue” LP.

Her very haunting, enthralling version of Bobby Caldwell‘s “What You Won’t Do For Love” (1978) is indeed very special via its spare arrangement and Indra’s intimate phrasing and style. The album closes out with Claus Ogerman’s “I Loved You” with lots of soul that is both sweet and sexy.

Fresh off her Twin Peaks cameo, singer-songwriter Lissie is back with her first release since 2016’s My Wild West. This time around the Illinois native strips the bluesy guitars at times, giving more space to expose her syrupy vocal melodies over simple piano (“Castles” and “Blood & Muscle”). One thing this album has in spades is its ability to be featured in just about any film/TV slot with its divine montage-esque delivery. What it’s lacking is a musical explosion to accompany that belting voice at this point something Lissie seems to intentionally avoid.

After the success of her critically acclaimed top 20 album ‘My Wild West’, Lissie returns deeply emotive piano ballad Blood & Muscle, showcasing a power vocal performance that has become with synonymous with this always engaging musician. ‘Don’t You Give Up On Me’ reached #23 in the UK Airplay Chart Critical Acclaim for her previous album ‘My Wild West’ “Undoubtedly her best album yet” – Q | “Another bittersweet triumph” – Independent on Sunday | 4* – The Guardian | 4* – The Star | 4* – Mail On Sunday | 5*- Uncut | “Wild West contains her most convincing songs yet” – Evening Standard | “Country rock calm flows through this album, her voice a mix of Stevie Nicks and Lana Del Rey” – Daily Express | “Lissie’s third album is the country-rocking belle’s fond farewell to Los Angeles” – Daily Mail | “Fits somewhere between the rustic charm of Emmylou Harris and a dash of Stevie Nicks” – The Times | “An album made by an artist who is still top of her game” – The 405 | “Spellbinding” – Red Bull | “An intoxicating return” – Clash.

There are both goodbyes and new beginnings throughout Lissie’s third album, My Wild West, reflecting her recent move from California back to her native Midwest. There is, therefore, a wistfulness, perhaps even a mournfulness, that makes the gentler country-flavoured songs like Together or Apart and Ojai extremely emotive. Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt come to mind on these numbers; some tracks equally boast some U2-esque rock sounds, including the title track and Don’t You Give Up On Me, although this is not where we see the best of the young artist. The nasal twang to her gripping vocals is among several redeeming features on an LP that is an admirable, if not spectacular, addition to the catalogue of an impressively consistent artist to date.

According to McCafferty the music on their sophomore album serves as a metaphor for yarn, “a long rambling story that is incoherent and just sort of goes on.” This group uses suspenseful and horror-infused electronic elements to create punk songs with a musical punch and lyrics with shock value as the main focus. “One of the definitions of ‘yarn’ is a long, rambling story that is incoherent and just sort of goes on,” Hartkop explains. “I think that really defines McCafferty. No matter how many times we tried to put it down, it’s come back up. The band wasn’t done with us. It was calling us back for a reason.”

FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz  | Time – 45:53 minutes | 819 MB | Genre: Rock
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download  | Front Cover | © Mercury

Mike Oldfield was asked in 1984 to score Roland Joffe’s film about two journalists’ experiences in the ‘killing fields’ of Kampuchea. Although Oldfield’s music is synonymous with film, it is his first and only score to date, The film was highly acclaimed winning two Academy awards and Oldfield’s score was an integral part of it, earning him a BAFTA and Golden Globe nomination. Newly remastered for 2016, The Killing Fields is a well-regarded entry in Mike Oldfield’s illustrious discography. As with all of Oldfield’s critically acclaimed re-release programme, the notes include a new interview with Mike.

Crack all the jokes you want about Mike Oldfield and his Tubular Bells becoming the hit theme song for The Exorcist. While Oldfield is an amazing guitarist who could play with the best of them, with a lithe synth touch that became a trademark, the bottom line is that the man is a serious composer. All the proof one needs apart from his own records like Incantations and Hergest Ridge is this killer movie score. While Oldfield used a purely Western and neo-classical formal approach to write the music for Roland Joffé’s dramatization of true events, his musical mates were among the best in the business at helping him to bring it off: David Bedford wrote arrangements and directed the choir, while Eberhard Schoener helped to conduct and direct another choir (!) and master percussionist Morris Pert lent his talents to the mix as well. While many scores written during the 1980s come off as laughable fluff in the 21st century, Oldfield’s score for The Killing Fields is in many ways far more memorable than the film itself. The music here is full of drama, dynamic, textures, and unexpected twists and turns even in the smallest of the incidental pieces, and carries within it a certain majesty that lacks pomp and remains graceful throughout. ~ Thom Jurek
